Barakat imports and distributes food and beverage brands from South Asia, the Middle East and Africa to independent retailers, wholesalers and cash-and-carry across Ireland. Six brands, 98 lines, one invoice, one delivery.
Our story
Ireland's Asian grocery trade has grown quickly, and its supply chain hasn't kept up. Shop owners told us the same thing over and over: too few wholesalers, not enough range, and prices that made it hard to compete. Barakat was built to fix that: bring in the brands Irish shops actually want, at prices that leave them a margin, and get them delivered without the wait.
That's still the whole idea. Bring in good product. Price it properly. Turn it around quickly.
Sarfraz Khan, Director
Sarfraz Khan has spent his career in food export and wholesale.
He founded and ran Euro Gate, exporting rice and FMCG products from Pakistan into the European Union, and went on to run TopMark, exporting from Pakistan into the EU, the United States and the Middle East. He exited TopMark as CEO, profitably.
Both businesses were built on the same thing Barakat runs on now: knowing the suppliers personally, understanding what moves through customs and what doesn't, and being straight with customers about what's landing and when.
A family business
Barakat is family-run. Sarfraz and his wife Uzma Khan are both directors of NARU Limited.
That doesn't mean it's small. There's a full team behind it (accounts, sales, marketing and warehouse), and the family part shows up in how that team is treated rather than in how few of them there are. We back our people, we invest in them, and we keep looking for ways to make working here better.
For a customer it means something simple: the people you deal with have been here a while, they know your account, and decisions don't need to go up three levels.
What we bring in
Six brands, 98 lines, across drinks, sauces, pickles, chutneys, pastas and macaroni: Bake Parlor, Rashfa, Fruit Nation, Zaiqa (Tooba) and Khalis, our own label.
All sourced from South Asia, the Middle East and Africa, imported directly, and distributed nationwide from Co. Meath.

This Privacy Policy explains how NARU Limited T/A BARAKAT ("Barakat", "we", "us"), a company registered in Ireland (Company No. {{ vals.business.companyNo }}, VAT No. {{ vals.business.vatNo }}) of {{ vals.business.address }}, collects, uses and protects personal data in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018. We are the data controller for the personal data described below. Contact us at {{ vals.business.emailGeneral }} or {{ vals.business.phone }} with any question.
Data We Collect
When you apply for or hold a trade account, browse our catalogue, or place an order, we may collect: business and trade account details (business name, VAT number, contact person, phone number, email, delivery and billing addresses); order history and quantities ordered; payment information (processed directly by Stripe - we never see or store your card details); website usage and analytics data (only once you consent - see our Cookie Policy); and any communications you send us by phone, email or web form.
Legal Bases for Processing
We rely on: contract performance to open your trade account, process orders and arrange delivery; legitimate interest for routine B2B communication, account administration and fraud prevention; consent for marketing emails and non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time; and legal obligation to keep invoice and tax records as required by Irish Revenue.
Who We Share Data With
We share data only where necessary, with the following processors: Supabase (database and account hosting), Stripe (card payment processing; we never see or store your card details), Xero (our accounting system, used to issue invoices), EmailJS (sending order and account emails), our website hosting provider, and delivery partners who need your delivery address to fulfil an order. We also share data with our accountants and professional advisors where necessary. We never sell your personal data to third parties.
Automated Decision-Making
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Trade account applications are reviewed by a member of our team, not decided automatically.
How Long We Keep Data
Order and invoice records are retained for the periods required by Irish Revenue and company law (generally six years). Trade account details are retained for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards for legal and accounting purposes.
Your Rights
Under GDPR you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected (rectification); request erasure; restrict or object to processing; receive your data in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email {{ vals.business.emailGeneral }}. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie), the Irish supervisory authority.
International Transfers
Some of our service providers are established outside the European Economic Area, or may process data outside it. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on the appropriate safeguards permitted under Chapter V of the GDPR, being either an adequacy decision of the European Commission or Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the Commission, together with any additional measures required. You can request further information about the safeguards applied by contacting us at the address above.
Security & Changes to This Policy
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data. We may update this policy from time to time; the "last updated" date above will always reflect the latest version.
